(Lanka e News - 31.Aug.2015, 11.30PM) Political circles are keenly watching whether the distortion that existed pertaining to parliamentary party leaders during the period of the 100 days interim government will be revived tomorrow with the commencement of the new parliament.
Until the advent of the 100 days interim government , it were only the leaders of parties contesting parliament seats were considered as parliamentary party leaders , and not the leaders of parties who simply formed alliances outside the parliament.
Accordingly , the party that contested the parliament seats in the name of UPFA was reckoned as a party , and a representative of that party was considered as a leader , and not those party leaders who simply signed agreements with the UPFA.
The party leaders meeting was represented by UPFA in its name , and not by party leaders of the various parties that belonged to the UPFA. Therefore under the standing order 32 of party leaders, the opportunity to raise questions were also granted in accordance with what is aforementioned.
Nevertheless , during the 100 days interim government , based on a conspiracy hatched by speaker Chamal Rajapakse and parliamentary secretary , this sacred parliament tradition was torn into shreds , whereby even those who signed agreements outside the parliament were treated as party leaders. Wimal Weerawansa , Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Dinesh contested the parliament seat as a separate party , but they were considered as party leaders during the 100 days interim government via the above distortion in Parliament.
Those who are enthusiastic politically and about the conduct of the parliament democratically sans distortions are keenly watching and monitoring to see whether the parliament secretary will introduce this distortion into the new parliament that is to commence its maiden sessions tomorrow
