Until all the aims of rainbow revolution of 8th January are accomplished the struggle will continue – immediate general elections is first aim

(Lanka-e-News- 17.June.2015, 7.30PM) The civil and professional organizations numbering over 40 including the campaign  for just society led by Ven. Sobitha Thera and the Citizens force, that rallied together for the victory of the rainbow revolution of 8 th January 2015, have unanimously decided to carry on their struggle until their final goal is reached. We are happy to disseminate  this salutary news among the people of Sri Lanka (SL).

These organizations arrived at this decision after holding discussions with P.M. Ranil Wickremesinghe on the 14 th at temple trees . About 60 representatives participated in this discussion.

Though they campaigned to abolish the executive presidency , what was secured was not the anticipated 19 th amendment ; and when  the goal  was to increase the  number of civil representatives of the constitutional council, that number was on the contrary restricted to only three ,  and besides , the constitutional council is now functioning even without those three members , the civil and professional organizations pointed out to the P.M. , while bemoaning  that they are not satisfied with these moves and  trends, despite the fact their rainbow revolution was a success.

Based on these unwelcome moves  and trends , already there are signals that the proposed 20 th amendment too that is to be tabled in parliament , will also not be passed ,in keeping with the expectations of the people . Hence the representatives of the organizations told the P.M. , the best solution in national interests is to dissolve parliament forthwith , irrespective of the 20 th amendment , whereby the people will be afforded the opportunity to elect a new parliament

It is well to remind the rainbow revolution of the 8th was not brought about not by these zeros who are now posing off as great heroes , talking wildly and loudly about  electoral reforms. Among those who truly committed themselves to rainbow revolution success were intellectuals and those of the intelligentsia , though now, corrupt and crafty opportunists have crept in as secretaries , security  personnel and advisors , the representatives at the meeting revealed to the prime minister.

The P.M. while endorsing their views  said , an advisory council  powered by intellectuals and those of the intelligentsia  should be created , and  the constitutional council  should comprise of the P.M. ,  the speaker, the opposition leader and all others must be   civil representatives . The P.M. vowed that after the new government is formed , a new constitution incorporating such amendments shall be introduced. He also told the representatives a counter revolution is in motion.

Following the discussion , the civil and professional organizations unanimously decided that until all  the aims and objectives of the rainbow revolution of 8 th January are accomplished , they would be continuing their struggle. The first goal will be to ensure that parliamentary elections are held immediately , they concluded
