(Lanka-e-News- 18.May.2015, 11.30PM)  The 19th amendment to the constitution is now passed . Based on that the independent commissions shall be established , and the main appointments to it be made , the Citizens force has urged.

Accordingly, in order to establish an independent judiciary  , the judges of the supreme court (SC) and appeal courts shall resign . In accordance  with the 19 th amendment , in order to appoint suitable honorable individuals( from within  and from outside) , those who are already in the posts  must make room for the new appointments, the Citizen’s force asserts.

By this change , the doubts and suspicions which prey on the minds of the sovereign people regarding the independence and sanctity  of the judiciary owing to the 18th amendment to the constitution have been dispelled , and the Citizens force is of the view that an independent sacrosanct judiciary   can thereby  be established.

Meanwhile the Citizens force has additionally requested  president Maithripala Sirisena and the government to ensure the drafts  of the 20 th amendment bill and the right to information bill now presented are passed , before the dissolution of parliament is announced, taking into account the enthusiasm and interest shown by all representatives  towards this.

Convener Dharmasiri Bandaranaike , Gamini Veyangoda, Saman Rathnapriya , Joseph Stalin and K.W. Janaranjana lawyer , of the Citizens force have signed this communiqué
