(Lanka-e-News -05.Feb.2025, 3.45 PM) Another incident of the current Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe was reported yesterday, seriously shaking the society.
Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe has ordered in writing to the Mt.Lavinia Magistrate to release the three defendants accused of concealing the evidence of the Lasanta Wickramatunge murder.
The Criminal Investigation Department had named Army Sergeant Major Prem Ananda Udalagama, Inspector of Police Hettiarachchige Don Tissasiri Sugatapala, and DIG Vitharana Arachchige Sirimevan Prasanna Nanayakkara as defendants in this case.
The Attorney General's written order to release these defendants was published in the media on Independence Day.
Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe started work from the Balapitiya Magistrate's Court to free the military and police officers of the state apparatus involved in the criminal cases.
The Balapitiya Magistrate's Court acquitted Special Task Force Police Inspector Colombo who was accused of murder. P.O. p. The Attorney General used the last Human Rights Day to free Colombo.
The Attorney General then ordered the Gampaha Magistrate to release the prison officers involved in the murders committed in the Mahara Jail during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first defendant in this case, Army Sergeant Major Udalagama, was identified by journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga's driver during an identification parade. The third accused, Prasanna Nanayakkara, is accused of destroying evidence in the Lasantha Wickramatunga murder.
Strong investigative evidence related to the murder had been presented to the court against all three. The Attorney General has intervened and ordered the release of these defendants in such an environment.
The polyglot society that voted for Malima is seriously shocked by this chain of immoral actions being carried out by Parinda Ranasinghe, the attorney general who was illegally appointed by Ranil Wickramasinghe.
Section 393 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and related sub-sections states that the powers of the Attorney General must be lawful. His powers should be further read following Article 12 of the Constitution under the heading of fundamental rights, the application and implementation of the law, and the protection of the law should be fair.
The Attorney General is doing this after Comrade Anura Kumara became the President. The Attorney General is working to pay lip service to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who vowed on the political stage that the law should be above everyone and that the rule of law will be established in the society of this country.
