Naam Tamil Party Chief Seeman’s Meeting with LTTE Leader Prabhakaran in 2008: A Controversial Claim..!

-By Political Correspondent

(Lanka-e-News -31.Jan.2025, 11.15 PM) In a claim that has reignited discussions on Tamil Nationalism and its historical links with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Naam Tamil Party (NTP) chief Seeman has reiterated that he met LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran in 2008. The assertion has received backing from former LTTE legal affairs representative, "Pandiyan" Mr. Ponsuwan, who insists that Seeman met the LTTE chief during the filming of the Tamil documentary Ellalan in Sri Lanka.

The Secretive Meeting Amidst the Civil War

According to Ponsuwan, the meeting was arranged without alerting even the film’s cinematographer, SR Santhosh. At the time, Sri Lanka was in the throes of its devastating civil war, with the Sri Lankan government mounting a final offensive against the LTTE. Seeman, a staunch advocate of Tamil Nationalism, reportedly took great risks to meet Prabhakaran during this period.

However, the claim has been refuted by Prabhakaran’s nephew, Karthik Manoharan, who released a statement denying that such a meeting ever took place. Manoharan insists that Seeman’s assertion is baseless and part of a larger misinformation campaign aimed at exaggerating the Naam Tamil Party leader’s ties to the LTTE. Counterclaims have surfaced that Karthik Manoharan is under Indian Intelligence control and has met with BJP Tamil Nadu leader Annamalai along with Sri Lankan Tamil politicians associated with India’s intelligence agency, RAW.

Seeman’s Advocacy for Tamil Nationalism

Following his alleged meeting with Prabhakaran, Seeman intensified his political rhetoric, condemning the atrocities committed against Tamils during the final stages of the Sri Lankan Civil War. His speeches and campaigns positioned him as one of the most vocal supporters of Tamil self-determination. Despite facing criticism and allegations of extremism, Seeman has continued to advocate for Tamil Nationalism, positioning it as a counterforce to both the Dravidian Movement and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), both of which he accuses of betraying Tamil interests.

Seeman has consistently claimed that Tamil Nationalism has been undermined by political factions working with Indian intelligence agencies. He alleges that these factions have actively worked to dismantle the ideology and suppress the aspirations of Tamils in Sri Lanka and India. Despite this opposition, Seeman’s movement has found resonance among Tamils worldwide, especially among diaspora communities who continue to support the Tamil Eelam cause.

Attacks and Misinformation Against Seeman

Seeman and his supporters claim that there is an ongoing effort to tarnish his image and discredit his political ideology. According to him, anti-Tamil Nationalism groups have been actively spreading misinformation, attempting to portray him as a controversial figure. Despite this, he remains undeterred, asserting that his commitment to Tamil Nationalism is unwavering.

Controversy Over Prabhakaran’s Alleged Survival

In a more recent development, Seeman made headlines again when he revealed that he received a call from London on Maveerar Day—observed on November 27 each year to honor fallen LTTE fighters—suggesting that Prabhakaran might still be alive. This statement has sparked speculation and debate, with some viewing it as a political maneuver while others see it as a reflection of lingering hope among LTTE supporters.

The Political Implications

Seeman’s claims and his continued advocacy for Tamil Nationalism have placed him at odds with both mainstream political entities and intelligence agencies. While he commands significant support from sections of the Tamil populace, his association with the LTTE remains a contentious issue. His insistence on Tamil self-determination keeps his party in the limelight, drawing both admiration and criticism.

As the political landscape in Tamil Nadu evolves, Seeman’s role in shaping the discourse around Tamil identity and nationalism remains crucial. His past connections and current claims continue to fuel political debates, keeping the legacy of Tamil Nationalism alive in contemporary politics.
