(Lanka-e-News -08.Jan.2025, 5.25 PM) Marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s export sector, the country has secured an opportunity to export chicken meat to China’s large market. This development was announced during today’s Cabinet decision briefing.
With the intervention of the Chinese Customs Authority, a systematic process has been proposed to facilitate the export of chicken meat from Sri Lanka to China. The agreement, which includes inspections, quarantine measures, and health standards, is expected to be signed between the relevant authorities of both countries.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation to sign the agreement between the Chinese Customs Authority and the Ministry.
If successful, this initiative is expected to boost chicken production in Sri Lanka while also leading to a potential decrease in chicken prices locally.
In addition to the chicken export agreement, Cabinet approval has been granted for five other agreements with China, including:
1. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Mass Media and the National Radio and Television Administration of the People’s Republic of China.
2. A cooperation agreement between Lake House and China’s Xinhua News Agency.
3. A cooperation agreement between the Government Information Department and China’s Xinhua News Agency.
4. Two MoUs between the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, and Chinese media organizations.
Meanwhile, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to undertake an official visit to China from January 14 to January 17.
