(Lanka-e-News -04.Jan.2025, 11.00 PM) As the government officially launched the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative on January 1, accusations have emerged from the government’s media minister that Antigen Dilith, also known as Nai Jayawira or Dilith Jayaweera, through his media outlet "Aruna," is deliberately creating false news to mislead the public.

“Under Clean Sri Lanka, selling jackfruit on the roadside is prohibited.
Even those who sold herbal porridge are facing lawsuits from the Athurugiriya Police.”

Ajith Jinadasa, a retired military officer engaged in selling jackfruit in the Panagoda Medamandiya area, told Aruna:

“Under Clean Sri Lanka, you cannot run businesses by the roadside. If you do business on the roadside, the government charges taxes. We have no choice. The government is doing this, and the Athurugiriya Police filed a case, asking us to appear in court on the 8th.”

This statement was reported on the front page of Aruna newspaper yesterday (3). It also claimed that the Police Media Spokesperson commented on the incident.

However, Nalinda Jayatissa stated that this news is entirely false and is not a mistake but a deliberate effort to incite fear about the Clean Sri Lanka program. The government views this as a malicious act, not an oversight. He also asserted that the government will not tolerate the spread of a destructive media culture disguised as media freedom.

Nalinda Jayatissa made these comments during a special press briefing held at the Government Information Department.

The Police Media Spokesperson, who also attended the briefing, stated that no comment was given to Aruna and that the published news is completely false.

Nalinda Jayatissa further alleged that Dilith Jayaweera’s media outlet has consistently published baseless and false news. He accused Dilith Jayaweera of habitually deceiving the Sri Lankan public, pointing out past incidents:

1. Claims that a mythical cobra from the Nagas came to Kelaniya to support Gotabaya’s presidential bid.
2. Misleading the public during the COVID-19 pandemic with false remedies labeled as miraculous cures.
3. Profiting millions through Antigen tests while exploiting the pandemic to displace communities and support Gotabaya.

Since the day the government, with unprecedented public support, came to power, individuals like Dilith Jayaweera, Gammanpila, and Weerawansa have been using media freedom to slander the administration and pave their way back into power.

The public granted this government more than a two-thirds majority not to allow extremists to continue destroying the country.

Power creates new dynamics, and it is a mistake not to use the authority granted when necessary, said President Anura Dissanayake of Malima.
