(Lanka-e-News -21.Nov.2024,11.20 pm) Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Qi Zhenhong, embarked on a significant three-day visit to the Northern and Eastern Provinces from November 19 to 21, 2024. This visit reinforced the long-standing friendship between China and Sri Lanka, with substantial contributions to local development and support for communities in need.
During his visit, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong engaged with local communities, government officials, and development stakeholders, emphasizing China's commitment to uplifting livelihoods and fostering development in Sri Lanka's Northern and Eastern Provinces. This year, the Chinese government has extended remarkable support through various donations, including housing units, fishing nets, and rice, amounting to a total value of LKR 1.5 billion.
On November 20, the Chinese Embassy made an additional contribution of LKR 8 million to the Eastern Province, further strengthening its development assistance efforts. Earlier in the year, donations included critical resources such as housing units and fishing nets, aimed at improving the living standards of vulnerable communities.
Ambassador Qi Zhenhong visited a Tamil village in the Eastern Province, continuing his tradition of annual visits to the region. The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction in witnessing the tangible improvements in the lives of local villagers, achieved through consistent support from the Chinese government. Over the years, such initiatives have enabled villagers to build homes, enhance their livelihoods, and access basic resources for a better quality of life.
Similarly, the Northern Province benefited from significant contributions. On November 19, the Chinese government donated house units, fishing nets, and rice, catering to the pressing needs of communities recovering from the effects of past conflicts and economic challenges. The donations have played a vital role in empowering families to rebuild their lives and secure sustainable livelihoods.
On November 20, an additional donation of LKR 12 million was provided to the Northern Province by the Chinese Embassy. This gesture underscores China's unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive growth and addressing socio-economic disparities in Sri Lanka.
