(Lanka-e-News -13.Nov.2024, 10.50 pm) The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court day before yesterday (11) that they have launched a criminal investigation following a Channel 4 documentary that linked former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillayan, and former Army Intelligence Director Tuan Suresh Sallay to the Easter Sunday attacks.
Following this revelation, the CID notified Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, who previously served as a private secretary to Asath Moulana, to appear today at 9:30 am to give a statement. However, Pillayan did not attend.
The investigation was initiated following a complaint from Father Rohan Silva, Executive Director of the Center for Society and Peace. The police stated that they have already recorded a statement from Father Rohan Silva regarding the complaint.
In his complaint, Father Silva requested an independent inquiry into Asath Moulana’s statements aired in the Channel 4 documentary concerning the Easter Sunday attacks. This complaint was submitted to the Ministry of Public Security, which subsequently referred it to Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya, who then directed the CID's Deputy Inspector General to conduct an investigation.
Tuan Suresh Sallay, implicated in the Channel 4 revelations regarding the Easter attacks, was appointed Director of the State Intelligence Service in December 2019. Following Father Rohan Silva’s complaint, the new President replaced him with another official in that role.
