(Lanka-e-News -18.Oct.2024, 11.00 pm) It has been revealed that Janaka Ranawaka, the former mayor of Kotte, is involved in a land grabbing scheme by forging fake documents. Sudath Wijayaratne, the former executive engineer of the Kotte Municipal Council, has accused Ranawaka of illegally acquiring a large amount of land, including an attempt to grab land on Galpotha Road in Nawala, Rajagiriya, which belonged to Wijayaratne’s parents.
Wijayaratne further claims that on the night of October 16th, Ranawaka, along with a large group of thugs, arrived at the said property, broke through the front gate, and threatened him with a pistol. Despite being severely ill with cancer, Wijayaratne said that Ranawaka tried to forcibly take over the house, which is worth around 200 million rupees and has five rooms. Ranawaka allegedly forced Wijayaratne and his caretakers out of the house.
Wijayaratne reported that he immediately contacted the police emergency services and his legal team, leading to officers from the Welikada Police arriving at the scene. However, he accused the acting officer-in-charge and the officer-in-charge of the Crime Division of failing to investigate Ranawaka or his gang. Instead, the police, claiming they received information that people were being held inside and that there were weapons in the house, searched the premises without a warrant.
