(Lanka-e-News -14.Oct.2024, 9.20 pm) In a rather bizarre turn of events, SJB leader Sajith Premadasa found himself in a phone conversation that left him fuming — and possibly questioning the nature of time itself.
It all started with a phone call. Sajith, busy as usual, answered with his classic no-nonsense tone. But this call wasn’t about party policies or a pressing issue. No, it was about something far more confusing: the identity of the next leader of the SJB.
“Who will be the next leader of the SJB?” the caller asked innocently enough.
Sajith, taken aback, immediately responded, “I am the leader! Why are you talking about the next leader?”
But the caller, unfazed, pressed on. “Yes, but you’re going to lose the next election, right? So, after that, they’ll appoint a new leader. I’m just asking who that’ll be.”
Silence.
For a brief moment, you could practically hear the gears in Sajith’s head grinding to a halt.
“What are you talking about?” he finally spluttered. “I am the leader! I will be the leader!”
The caller, clearly enjoying themselves, continued, “Look, you lost the last presidential election, didn’t you? And you’re probably going to lose the next one, right? So obviously, they’ll elect a new leader after that. I’m just trying to be practical here.”
At this point, Sajith was no longer in a conversation; he was in a debate with the universe itself.
“Who are you?!” Sajith demanded, his patience running thinner than an election promise. “I will not lose, and I will remain the leader!”
But the mystery caller wasn’t backing down. “Come on, let’s be realistic. You’re going to lose, the people didn’t vote for you last time, and they’re probably not going to this time either. So get ready for a new leader! Just tell me — who do you think is suitable?”
With a final, furious “No comment!” and the sound of a phone being slammed down (or at least angrily tapped, as smartphones go), the call was over.
Sajith may have ended the conversation, but the question still hangs in the air. Could it have been a prank? A time traveler? Or maybe just someone with a little too much electoral cynicism?
Either way, one thing’s for sure: Sajith Premadasa is not ready to talk about the “next” leader of the SJB anytime soon.
