(Lanka-e-News -13.Oct.2024, 9.15 pm) The process of accepting nominations for the upcoming General Election, which concluded Friday, has resulted in the approval of 690 nomination papers submitted by major parties and independent groups, while 74 nomination papers were rejected, according to the Election Commission’s General Commissioner, Saman Sri Rathnayake.
Meanwhile, the national lists for parliamentary seats from the parties contesting the election were also presented to the commission today. The National People’s Power (NPP) submitted a unique and diverse list for this General Election, which stands out compared to previous national lists in Sri Lanka. The list includes notable figures such as Sugath Thilakaratne, an Olympic medalist, and a visually impaired degree holder representing the disabled community. The full list is as follows:
1. Bimal Rathnayake - Former Member of Parliament, Political Bureau Member of the JVP, and National Executive Committee Member of the NPP
