“Sri Lanka’s Sherlock Holmes” Returns to the Police Service! Several High-Ranking Transfers..!

(Lanka-e-News -13.Oct.2024, 9.10 pm) Retired Senior Police Officer Shani Abeysekara, widely known as “Sri Lanka’s Sherlock Holmes,” who had faced various forms of retaliation from the Rajapaksa regime, has been reinstated to the police service by President Anura’s new government. He has been recruited on a one-year contract to serve as the Director of the Criminal Intelligence Analysis and Prevention Division. This appointment, made by the National Police Commission, has also been approved by the Election Commission, even during an ongoing election.

In addition, there have been several transfers among senior police officers. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) M.A.A.R. Premarathna, previously attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has been transferred to serve as the DIG in charge of the Western Province (Northern Division).

DIG P. Ampavila has been reassigned as the DIG in charge of the CID. Previously, he was responsible for overseeing financial intelligence investigations related to money laundering, pyramid schemes, and other financial fraud at the Central Bank’s special investigation units.

Furthermore, the National Police Commission, with the approval of the Election Commission, has made additional transfers of the following DIGs, including a female officer:

    •    DIG D.P. Chandrasiri, previously in charge of the Galle Division, has been transferred to serve as the DIG in charge of promotions.
    •    DIG E.M.G.J. Seram, previously in charge of community policing and environmental protection, has been transferred to the Galle Division.
    •    Female DIG Bimshani Jasin Arachchi, previously attached to the police headquarters (Recruitment and Training Division), has been transferred to serve as the DIG in charge of community policing and environmental protection
