A Conspiracy to Hunt Down a Journalist Exposing the Truth Instead of Finding the Masterminds Behind the Easter Bombings..!

(Lanka-e-News -13.Oct.2024, 9.00 pm) Instead of pursuing the real masterminds behind the Easter bombings, a sinister plot has emerged targeting Tarindu Jayawardena, a veteran journalist who has relentlessly sought the truth about the unresolved aspects of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. Jayawardena, who also serves as the President of the Young Journalists’ Association, is now being pursued in a suspicious and politically motivated effort, potentially involving corrupt elements of the police force. The orchestrator of this effort appears to be Inspector Induka Silva, who heads the Murder Investigation Unit. Although a new investigation into the Easter attacks was initiated by the current government, this pursuit raises significant questions.

The following is a letter written by Jayawardena to the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Priyantha Weerasuriya, informing him of the conspiracy against him.

To:
Priyantha Weerasuriya, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police,
Acting Inspector General of Police,
Police Headquarters, Colombo.

Subject: Notification of a Conspiracy to Arrest Me

I, Tarindu Iranga Jayawardena, have been working as a journalist since 2011. From 2018, I have been reporting on various incidents, including the horrific 2019 Easter Sunday bombings and the murder of two police officers in Vavunathivu (November 30, 2018), which were later confirmed to be linked to the attacks.

Recently, under case number B 34097/24 at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, Inspector Induka Silva from the Murder Investigation Unit reported against me, seeking a court order on October 9, 2024. This report claims that through the YouTube channel “MediaLK,” I have released misleading information that obstructs the investigation into the Easter Sunday attacks. The report accuses me of publishing false content through social media platforms, misleading both Sri Lankans and the diaspora, and negatively influencing the ongoing investigation. It is further claimed that the video I released on October 3, 2024, had a significant impact on the investigation.

I believe that this report is part of a coordinated effort to arrest me due to the information I have uncovered regarding the Easter Sunday attacks. Inspector Induka Silva has a history of being involved in questionable investigations, and despite serious allegations against him, he was reappointed to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following the political changes that occurred when Gotabaya Rajapaksa became president in 2019. Silva was appointed head of the Murder Investigation Unit and given responsibility for investigations related to Sara Jasmine and former CID Director Shani Abeysekara.

I have publicly exposed the illegal actions of Silva on numerous occasions. I was also aware of his involvement in questionable petitions against Abeysekara and others. Despite being removed from the CID due to his controversial actions, he was reinstated after the regime change in 2019 and has since been involved in politically motivated investigations targeting those linked to the Easter attacks, including me.

I have reason to believe that this latest attempt to arrest me is a politically motivated conspiracy to silence my investigative journalism and prevent further revelations about the Easter attacks. I urge you to take immediate action to stop this illegal arrest attempt, ensure my safety, and hold Inspector Induka Silva accountable for his actions.

Yours sincerely,

Tarindu Jayawardena
