-By Dinusha Senaviratne

(Lanka-e-News -02.Oct.2024, 11.00 pm) It has been reported that investigations are currently underway by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against Jagath Wasantha Disanayake, the former Chairman of the Pallepola Pradeshiya Sabha in the Matale District, and his sister, Ashoka Disanayake, a former member of the Pallepola Pradeshiya Sabha.

The complaint alleges that the former chairman, without following any proper tender procedures, allocated shop spaces in a new shopping complex built with public funds by the Pallepola Pradeshiya Sabha to himself, his close associates, and his sister, Ashoka Disanayake. Furthermore, during the investigation, it was revealed that there were several other instances of corruption during the tenure of the former chairman, including the discovery that he was constructing a house in the Kandy area.

An official from the Bribery and Corruption Commission, when contacted, confirmed that the investigation is in its final stages and that legal action is being prepared against the former chairman and his sister, with a report to be submitted to the court in the coming weeks.
