(Lanka-e-News -02.Oct.2024, 10.45 pm) Former Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, Viyani Gunathilaka, arrived at the Department of Immigration and Emigration 30th Sep. at 10:15 a.m. and obtained a new passport within an hour.
He arrived at 10:15 a.m., and by 11:30 a.m., he had canceled his diplomatic passport and received a regular passport with the number N11540935.
He was assisted by Indika Herath, the Controller (Remote Control and Information Technology) of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, who issued token number 3001 to Viyani Gunathilaka, enabling the process to be completed within an hour. Indika Herath was appointed to this position during the previous government with the blessings of Viyani Gunathilaka, then Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, and the Controller General Harsha Ilukpitiya.
While the general public has to stand in line for two days and apply for a token two weeks in advance just to submit their applications, Viyani bypassed the entire process and obtained his passport in an hour through VIP treatment.
This incident clearly shows that these former officials, who created this chaotic system, are still operating contrary to the fundamental principles of the new government.
