Speech by Honorable Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong...

Hon. Mr. Vijitha Herath,
Your Excellency Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa,
Your Excellency Mr. Maithripala Sirisena,
Distinguished members of the diplomatic corps,
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, friends,

Ayubowan! Vanakkam! Good evening! 大家晚上好!

Thank you all for joining us tonight to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. On behalf of the Embassy, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our guests and express my heartfelt gratitude to those who have long supported the development of China and China-Sri Lanka relations. I also send sincere holiday greetings to fellow Chinese citizens both at home and here in Sri Lanka.

The past 75 years have been a remarkable journey for China, full of trials and triumphs. Since its founding in 1949, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the nation has transformed from standing upright to becoming prosperous and growing in strength. Today, the Chinese people are confidently advancing on the path of building a great modern socialist country in all respects and are pursuing national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.

China's remarkable progress is attributed to the leadership of the Communist Party of China, which has guided the nation through major reforms and opening-up efforts. The historic decision made at the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee in 1978 marked China’s entry into a new era of reform and socialist modernization. This July, the 20th CPC Central Committee adopted a new programmatic document aimed at advancing Chinese modernization, setting the stage for further reforms to be completed by 2029.

Advancing Chinese modernization through deepening reform and opening-up will not only transform China but also impact the world. With over 1.4 billion people stepping into modernization, a vast market is taking shape, larger than the combined size of existing developed nations. China will continue to contribute to global economic recovery and cooperation, further solidifying its role in promoting peace and development worldwide.

In his address, Ambassador Qi emphasized China's role on the global stage and its commitment to initiatives like the Belt and Road, aimed at fostering shared global prosperity. He underscored the enduring friendship between China and Sri Lanka, rooted in over 2000 years of history, and expressed confidence in Sri Lanka’s future as it continues to overcome challenges with the support of its international partners, including China.

The evening concluded with a toast to the lasting friendship and cooperation between China and Sri Lanka, symbolizing a shared future of growth, peace, and mutual prosperity. The celebration was marked by cultural performances, reflecting the rich heritage of both nations, and a reception that strengthened ties among the gathered dignitaries.

This significant event once again demonstrated the strong diplomatic and economic ties between China and Sri Lanka, as both countries continue to deepen their strategic partnership.
