(Lanka-e-News -22.Sep.2024, 10.35 pm) Anura Kumara Dissanayake has been elected as the 9th Executive President of Sri Lanka with the highest number of votes. He is scheduled to take the oath of office tomorrow morning (23rd).
In the presidential election held on the 21st, no candidate was able to secure more than 50% of the total votes. As a result, the second and third preference votes of the two leading candidates, Anura Dissanayake and Sajith Premadasa, were counted after the other candidates were eliminated from the race.
According to the final tally, Anura Dissanayake received a total of 5,740,179 votes. Sajith Premadasa, who came in second place, secured 4,363,035 votes, while Ranil Wickremesinghe, who finished third, garnered 2,299,767 votes.
With a majority of 1,377,144 votes, Anura Dissanayake has been elected as the new President of Sri Lanka.
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has left office and returned home.
