(Lanka-e-News -18.Sep.2024, 11.30 pm) A civil organization has lodged a complaint today (18th) with the Financial Crimes Investigation Division against Nishantha Dias, the financial controller of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), alleging that he has amassed a large sum of money within a short period. It is claimed that this wealth was used to bolster his image by secretly funding Namal Rajapaksa's election campaign for the upcoming presidential election.
The complaint was submitted to the commission by Nimal Ekanayake, the convener of the Anti-Corruption New Front.
According to the complaint, Nishantha Dias, who a few years ago was working as a stonecutter in the Nawula area and did not even own a home to live in, is now the owner of several houses, lands, and six buses in the Matale region. It is also alleged that he is currently spending a substantial amount of his personal wealth on behalf of the SLPP presidential candidate. Furthermore, a significant sum is being spent on a certain parliamentarian, and it is claimed that Dias is personally funding the transportation of people from Matale to Namal Rajapaksa’s election rallies by bus.
The complaint raises the question of how Nishantha Dias, who had no substantial financial resources, suddenly acquired millions. There is suspicion that these funds may actually belong to Basil Rajapaksa.
