SJB Leader Admits NPP Gaining Ground Ahead of Presidential Election..!

-By A Staff Writer

(Lanka-e-News -06.Sep.2024, 10.30 pm) Today in Colombo, Sajith Premadasa, leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), had a notable conversation with a diplomat, where he acknowledged the growing momentum of the National People's Power (NPP) led by Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Premadasa admitted that Dissanayake is on track to win the next presidential election, with internal reports from SJB grassroots indicating a high voter turnout trending toward the NPP.

Premadasa also highlighted that his party, the SJB, is struggling to organize political rallies, in contrast to the NPP, which is conducting five to six events per day, often involving professionals and businesses. According to Premadasa, Dissanayake's campaign stretches from early morning until late into the night, sometimes even as late as 2 a.m.

In contrast, Premadasa and President Ranil Wickremesinghe have been observing dwindling crowds at their events, reflecting their declining popularity. When asked by the diplomat if this trend could affect future general elections, Premadasa conceded that the NPP could secure a parliamentary majority following a potential victory by Dissanayake in the presidential race.

He concluded by stating that the current political climate could usher in a new era, led by Anura Kumara and the NPP, both at the presidential and parliamentary levels.
