Alleged Indian Plot to Use Sri Lankan Proxies to Assassinate Bangladesh PM Prof. Yunus; Raises Concerns..!

-By A Special Correspondent

(Lanka-e-News -16.Aug.2024, 11.30 pm) Intelligence reports have surfaced suggesting that Indian operatives are in talks with Sri Lankan paramilitary groups to orchestrate the assassination of Bangladesh’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Prof. Muhammad Yunus. The reports indicate that Indian intelligence is allegedly exploring the involvement of the Pillayan Group or the Karuna Group, notorious Sri Lankan paramilitary factions, to carry out this operation due to Prof. Yunus's known criticism of New Delhi’s policies.

The claims suggest that members of the Indian intelligence community recently met with Pillayan, a former militant leader and current politician in Sri Lanka with close ties to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s administration. The reports also mention that Indian officials are in discussions to deploy these proxies against Prof. Yunus, who has emerged as a key figure opposing both Sheikh Hasina’s administration and New Delhi’s influence in the region.

Pillayan’s alleged connections to Hindu nationalist organizations in India further complicate the situation. Some right-wing Hindu groups reportedly harbor resentment toward Prof. Yunus, accusing him of failing to protect Hindu communities in Bangladesh. The intelligence reports claim that these groups are pushing for the use of Tamil paramilitary operatives from Sri Lanka to eliminate Prof. Yunus.

This wouldn’t be the first instance of Pillayan’s involvement in regional conspiracies. Previous allegations have linked him to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka, which some sources claim were masterminded by Indian intelligence agencies through regional networks. The current plan reportedly involves moving these operatives through Assam to gain access to Bangladesh, where they would target the newly appointed Prime Minister.

The broader strategy appears to be focused on destabilizing Prof. Yunus's government and restoring Sheikh Hasina to power, with whom New Delhi has maintained a cooperative relationship over the years. The alleged plan is part of India’s efforts to maintain regional control, particularly given the growing student-led movements in Bangladesh that propelled Prof. Yunus to the premiership.

International observers monitoring the activities of Tamil paramilitary groups in Sri Lanka have expressed concerns over the potential misuse of resources provided by both the Sri Lankan and Indian governments. These resources, originally intended for counter-insurgency operations, could now be redirected toward politically motivated assassinations in neighboring countries.

The situation is being closely monitored by global intelligence agencies, with the possibility of significant geopolitical repercussions if such a plan were executed. Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, along with regional and international stakeholders, are urged to remain vigilant amid these unfolding developments.
