(Lanka-e-News -10.March.2021, 4.15AM) The current government is deliberately covering up the Easter Sunday attacks on April 21, 2019, the deadliest massacre in Sri Lanka in the last decade. Meanwhile, both the respondents and the plaintiffs are attacking the dilemma report of the Presidential Commission appointed to investigate the Easter attack.
The Presidential Commission, comprising retired judges of full powers, has been investigating the matter for 15 months and has concluded its report, recalling the popular folklore saying, "There is neither dancing nor drumming."
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed a ministerial committee of brilliant experts to delay the release of the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Attack, which ended on January 27, 2021. It was the responsibility of the President to appoint Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Prasanna Ranatunga, Udaya Gammanpila, Johnston Fernando, Ramesh Pathirana and Chamal Rajapaksa to the "expert" group of ministers in the current government was to "study in depth" the report before it publishing to the made public. It is the assessment of the incumbent President who came to power over the shoulders of the so-called scholars that their subject knowledge is sufficient for such a task.
However, in the face of serious criticism from Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and society, the committee faced strong social opposition. Unable to cope with the pressure only one volume of the Commission's report was presented to Parliament and to the Cardinal.
Who directed the attack? Who aided and abetted the attackers? Who are the leader above the extremists including the suicide bomber Saharan? No further inquiries were made into the main issues. However, day to day the vast majority of the country is realizing that the forces behind attack and those who supported it are directly linked to the current government.
The Easter attack was a hot topic during the last presidential election campaign of the current president. It presented the stages as a fairy tale of how to rebuild the national security of a country in crisis and how to strengthen the intelligence services. Gotabaya Rajapakse also vowed that those involved in the crime would be severely punished within two weeks.
Attempts made to cover up parts of the Presidential Commission's report on the Easter attack by misusing the term 'so-called national security' made it clear that the promise made to severely punish the perpetrators of the Easter attack within two weeks was just another parody of the Nandasena Gotabhaya Rajapaksa government.
The start of the savage extremist organization Saharan dates back to 2010 to 2015 when the then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the then Defense Secretary. In order to keep the Rajapaksas in power for a long time, their strategy was to create extremist organizations and to pit those organizations against each other. Their plan was to consolidate power and seize power by claiming to save the country, nation and religion in the face of those crises.
According to reports, Saharan was recruited into the Army Intelligence during the war by Major Tuan Nizam Muthalif, a former Army intelligence officer killed by the LTTE. Saharan had relations only with Mutalif. After Muthalif's assassination on May 31, 2005, near Badrawathi Achool in Narahenpita, Saharan became enraged and withdrew from spying for the army.
Sometime after the end of the war, after the Rajapaksas were planning to form extremist organizations, a Malay brigadier Suresh Saleh the then director of the state intelligence service, who was very close to Gotabhaya at the time went to Kattankudi and met Saharan. Saleh, who also worked with Muthalif, recognized Saharan's skills and capacity. The Bodu Bala Sena was also formed by the military intelligence but Saharan was persuaded by Suresh Saleh to form a Muslim organization against the Bodu Bala Sena when he went to Kattankudi. He also agreed to pay Saharan and his organiation from the military intelligence for this task. This was the name of the Tawheed Jamaath, which was formed under the leadership of Saharan.
It is a well-known secret that the Ministry of Defense paid salaries and benefits to the Saharan as well as a number of other extremist organizations (including the Shiva Sena). This has been confirmed by the current Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.
After the end of a brutal 30-year war, who and for what purpose 21 extremist organizations, including Saharan, was funded, misappropriating public funds and maintain a secret Army fund under the Ministry of Defense's Expenditure? Shouldn't the Presidential Commission question then Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa as to why?
The members of the commission who were aware of the terror unleashed during the Rajapaksa regime in the past may not have dared to question those above. But in a society ruled by justice, the then Secretary of Defense, the then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, must be questioned unconditionally.
It is no secret that the hand behind Saharan's attack is very close to the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa government. It was never questioned by this Commission. If they had done so, the fate of journalists like Lasantha Wickrematunge would have been met with the appointment of members of the Commission. Now with the controversy surrounding these commission dramas, there is a well-known secret known to the vast majority of the country as well as internationally. That is, the direct involvement of the Cabinet, including the President and the Prime Minister, in any crime that is not punished by the Sri Lankan government and covered by presidential commission.
One of the recommendations appreciated of the Presidential Commission is to file criminal charges against President Maithripala Sirisena, who fled the country with his family on April 16, 2019, prior to the attack, knowing in advance that this crime was taking place.
Maithripala Sirisena became aware of the imminent attack by then Chief of State Intelligence and his close ally, senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena, on April 4, 2019. Knowing this, Maithripala Sirisena went to India on April 16 and spent two days in India on a pilgrimage to the Tirupathi Temple. He then toured Singapore until the 21.04.2019 attack by inflicting the country in jeopardy
Maithripala Sirisena fled the country without informing the then Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and without appointing anyone to look after the security situation, paving the way allowing to kill 300 innocent civilians for brutal Saharan and other extremists as a prey.
It was revealed at the Presidential Commission that the Chief of State Intelligence Nilantha Jayawardena had destroyed the telephone calls made to Maithripala Sirisena and the vital intelligence received about Saharan from his mobile phone and laptop.
This was confirmed even during the forensic digital laboratory tests conducted by the Government Analyst's Department and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Instead of punishing Nilantha Jayawardena who was directly involved in this crime, the present government has promoted him to the post of Senior DIG in charge of the Eastern Province. (Eastern Province is considered the stronghold of extremists including Saharan)
A full-fledged Presidential Commission appointed by Maithripala Sirisena as a travesty of fate exposed Sirisena's deliberate criminal activities. He is now trying to escape from this criminal crime under the guise of the bargaining power of the SLFP. At the suggestion of Nimal Siripala Silva, a government minister, the executive council of the SLFP unanimously rejected the report of the Presidential Commission. The Gotabaya Rajapaksa government which passed the 20th amendment with a two third majority has shaken by this.
Before appointing this commission, Maithripala Sirisena appointed a commission called Vijith Malalgoda. Sirisena implicated and imprisoned the former IGP Poojitha Jayasundara and former defense secretary Hemasiri Fernando for obstructing the commission's investigations. This prevented the two from proceeding before the Malalgoda Commission. In the same way, Maithripala Sirisena disrupted the proceedings of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed on the Easter attack.
Sirisena disrupted members of the PSC by not allowing the committee to question the then head of state intelligence Nilantha Jayawardana about the attack. The intervention of this Presidential Commission to expose even a part of those who did not prevent the attack can be considered as an attempt to save the commission.
The failure to expose the hand behind the attack and those who supported it would be a serious disaster for the country in the future. More such tragic killings will inevitably take place to consolidate political power.
The commission itself confirmed that former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was aware of extremist activities in the Eastern Province until October 2018. The commission itself confirmed that former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was aware of extremist activities in the Eastern Province until October 2018.
In 2016, when former Army Commander General Krishantha Silva informed the Security Council about the activities of extremists including Saharan in the Eastern Province. Ranil Wickremesinghe should have been further questioned as to why he said, "No, no, there is no such activities" Ranil wickramasinghe and Sagala Ratnayake, who was in charge of the law, should not be allowed to escape because they have vested interests with the Rajapaksa government and others who did not take action to prevent this crime.
The whole country now knows that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa during his tenure as Secretary of Defense created a number of Buddhist extremist organizations, including the Bodu Bala Sena, in connection with the Rajapaksa family's power project and its consolidation. Nowadays the countries media who does not consider the voice cut saffron robed monks as mobs who always gossip about nothing.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa wanted to build the BBS like the Hindu extremist Siva Sena in India. The mechanism for working in an organized and proactive manner with extremist racist ideas was systematically started during Mahinda Rajapaksa's presidency to fund and maintain offices in the most urban areas. The group, including Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara, provided information on their own Muslim extremist organizations by the intelligence services themselves, and by taking them into their own hands, they magnified the small isolated incidents artificially created in various parts of the country and created religious conflicts throughout the country.
CID officials have reported the confessions of Muslim youths who joined Saharan's extremist group at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter attacks. Investigations have revealed that the Bodu Bala Sena was the Buddhist extremist organization that influenced and helped the group to join with Saharan.
The conclusion that the organization should also be banned by this commission report is creating another problem. That will never happen during the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa regime.
The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) made a public statement after the 2019 presidential election that it will dissolve its organization as its role ends with the appointment of current President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as President. With the appointment of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as President, the objectives of his organization became a reality.
But now, following the recommendation that the Bodu Bala Sena should be banned in this report, Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara as a thug has threatened Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith that if he complains to the international community about the Easter attack, he will be taken care of. It is very clear in whose power Gnanasara is making such a statement. It is not by the power of anyone else but by the consent of the current President killer Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The united opposition is doing a minimal intervention to bring justice to the victims of this Easter attack. They are convening media briefing 'like a coconut falling in off seasons'. It is clear that the opposition is afraid and reluctant to say the present government is directly connected with this crime.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa provided the country with another best joke of the year. He said that the death penalty would be imposed on those involved in the Easter attack under his future government, that he would take responsibility for the bombing as it was his government that was ruling during the Easter bombing following President Gotabhaya's reply. If so, it is Sajith who should be give the death sentence, given by Sajith.
Instead of the country laughing at such stupid jokes at the moment, a mature political leader should join hands with those closest to the victims of the Easter attack and the entire Catholic community to exert massive influence against the current government that used this criminal crime to seize power and protect the real criminals.
If he is a mature political leader, he should stop making such stupid jokes and make the country laugh instead join hands together with the loved ones who died in the Easter attack and lobby the entire Catholic community to find the criminal who seized power to commit this crime and to exert massive influence against the current government that is protecting the real criminals. Unfortunately there are no such effects.
1. Former Army IGP Poojitha Jayasundara revealed to the Presidential Commission, Jameel Mohamed who detonated the bomb at a lodge in Dehiwala. Who was the Army intelligence officer who met him before the attack? Where are the investigations?
2. Under whose intervention further investigations were not carried out into the killing of two policemen at Vavunathivu Batticaloa, the Wanathawilluwa Explosive Training Camp and the attack on the Mawanella Buddha statue which had direct intervention of the Saharan.
3. How did the preliminary experiment of blowing up a motorcycle with the intervention of the Saharan, a week before the Easter attack develop into a joint suicide attack in a very short time? Who imparted technical knowledge?
4. Why is the government not interested to find about Pulasthini Mahendran alias Sarah Jasmine?
5. Why was Nilantha Jayawardena, the then Chief of State Intelligence, promoted to the post of Senior DIG in the Eastern Province under the present government, when it was confirmed that vital evidence of the Saharan and Easter attacks on telephones and work computers had been destroyed?
6. Why did the Presidential Commission remove confidential documents provided to the Commission by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe regarding the attack and the salaries paid to Saharans and intelligence interventions during Gotabaya Rajapaksa's tenure as Secretary of Defense?
7. Why the Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, who has been aware of these crucial issues on a number of occasions, does not dare to ask them one by one?
Truth will win someday. Until then, justice must be done in every possible way.
