The AG department 130 th anniversary celebration invitation sent to CJ cancelled by AG –told not to attend

(Lanka-e-News-20.Jan.2015, 11.55PM) It is incredible but true ! For the first time in Sri Lanka’s judicial history , an invitation sent to the chief justice (CJ)to attend a most prestigious colorful event of the attorney general’s department which is celebrating its 130 th birth anniversary yesterday (19), had been withdrawn by the attorney general himself .

This celebration was held this morning ,and its chief guest was named as His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka (SL) Maithripala Sirisena .Since this celebration was organized before the Presidential elections , the invitation was addressed to the President of SL and not in the name of any President at that time , because the organizers did not know who will become the President after elections. Accordingly , the new President Maithripala Sirisena was named as the chief guest.

The invitations were sent some days prior to the Presidential elections , and Mohan Pairis the CJ was also invited.

However , the whole country was awakened to a rude shock when it was exposed on the day (9)following elections in the wee hours of the morning when election results were being announced , that Mohan Peiris , the CJ and hence an integral part of the independent judiciary was with the losing President Mahinda Rajapakse at Temple trees and conspiring to illegally keep the ex President in power via a military coup .The most salient fact is , these charges were mounted against him not only by a responsible foreign Minister , Prime minister ,army chief , and IGP , but also by no less a person than the present attorney general (AG) , a member of CJ’s own legal fraternity.

Based on the disgrace the CJ has brought upon the judiciary , and his conduct that is most derogatory disrespecting supreme laws of the country , the present AG Yuvanjana Wanasundara Wijeyatileke had cancelled the invitation that was sent to the CJ , and sent a letter yesterday informing him not to grace the occasion - the 130 year anniversary celebration of the attorney general department .

If Mohan Peiris , who became a chief justice from Temple trees backyard after having been a bank chairman has even an iota of shame in him ,he should tender his resignation forthwith honorably before he disgraces himself further and disdains the judicial profession which is rejecting him wholesale on account of his shameless misconduct and misdeeds. Never did a chief justice of Sri Lanka descend to this sordid and unscrupulous level in the judicial history of SL to vilify and degrade the judiciary, not to mention the unprecedented disrepute he brought upon himself shamelessly and brazenly.
