Elections Commissioner decides to bar ITN , National Rupavahini and Sirasa from announcing election results for violating laws

(Lanka-e-News-06.Jan.2015, 11.30PM) The Elections commissioner has decided to disallow the announcement of official election results by two State media Institutions and a private media Institution by halting the official election results from being conveyed to these Institutions ,for acting in violation of his orders during the elections period thereby treating his directives disdainfully.

The media Institutions are : The State National television network, the ITN and Sirasa media Institution (private). These Institutions have not been issued the permit to enter the Elections Commissioner’s office on the elections day. Hence , if these Institutions are to announce the results , they have to obtain the results from the official website of the elections commissioner’s office after they are posted in the website. Incidentally , earlier on the elections commissioner barred the announcement of official election results via the government information department for acting in breach of the elections commissioner’s directives.

An exemplary lesson in discipline and lawful conduct is being taught by the elections commissioner to those media Institutions that are stooping to do the sordid and illegal biddings of the Rajapakse regime and are assuming that they can freely kick aside the country’s constitution, and that there are no laws in this country governing them .

Not sure about 'Sirasa'. Only ITN & Rupavahini ran pro MR items after 5th midnight as I am being an eye witness. Sirasa also notified at around 21.00hr. that they are not showing "Janapathi Jana Hamuwa" as per planned from 22.30 to 00.00hr, due to legal restrictions. I think it should be Swarnawahini.

Well done sir!! It's heartening to note that there are still govt. servants like you who has a backbone even when dealing with one of the most corrupt regimes of our time. You and your wife deserve at least a two weeks vacation in Singapore and Malaysia at state expense for completing a fantastic job under severe stress and a sickening environment created by govt mafias.
