(Lanka-e-News -20.Aug.2016, 7.30PM) ‘Sri Lanka will be raised to such a peak level that it shall not surrender or submit to any foreign force . It shall be an independent country commanding respect , and under the concept of good governance never any day will there be any necessity for anyone to take to arms , be it in the North or the South when reconciliation is in place ,’ assured president Maithripala Sirisena when addressing a mass rally under the theme ‘a new country , a single journey’ attended by a mammoth crowd at Matara to mark the completion of one year of the new government with the participation of the two main political parties.
The president went on to make a most pleasantly shocking and welcome statement . He said , under this government unlike under the previous regime , if anybody within this government gets caught committing corruption or robberies he/she will be punished more severely than those culprits of the previous government.
‘ I am endorsing the proposal of Professor Wijesuriya. What is that proposal ? It is the eradication of corruption , fraud and profligacy while governing through the concept of good governance.
While we are pointing an accusing finger at those groups who previously governed , and are being punished , I must make it abundantly clear there is no room whatsoever to those within this present government to indulge in corruption , fraud , malpractices and profligacy when it is governing following a most pure clean and correct concept. If anybody within the government engages in such activities , and if that becomes known , this consensual government will forge ahead on its clean political journey only after meting out more deterrent punishment to them also,’ the president exhorted.
The president while sternly warning those going on walks in order to topple the government and are seeking to form a new party , pointed out no opportunity will be created to those who eroded Democracy to form a government again , any day.
‘We can face challenges . We have a two third majority in parliament .Some are day dreaming they can capture power in a day or two ( the president said with a smile ). No ,that is impossible. Very clearly , this consensual government like how during the remaining period of five years will go ahead in its full strength most cordially along with the people pursuing its salutary political goals and agendas most welcome by the people, it will decide in 2020 , how the governance should be carried on from that point of time.. I wish to make that absolutely and abundantly clear to all .
I also wish to emphatically and clearly state , we shall not allow those who devastated this country , destroyed Democracy, instilled fear among the people through the white Van syndrome , plunged the country into an economic abyss by driving it into a Rs. 9000 billion economic muddle , robbed in countless millions and wasted public funds ,and committed corruption and frauds on a scale unprecedented in this country’s history , to form a government again .
They say , they are forming a new party to topple us . Let them try and see. I wish to tell them , like how the frauds , corruption , thefts they indulged in during the run up to the presidential election on 8 th of January 2015 , and their most uncouth and uncivilized behavior when they ruled undemocratically were exposed , we shall on the day a new party is formed , reveal everything else much worse about them which we kept secret hitherto . We shall thereby create an environment which will make them so ashamed that they will not then think of forming a government rather prefer roaming the streets until doomsday for the egregious sins and crimes they have committed,’ the president pinpointed.

We hope he means what he says and acts on it. Many highly tainted persons have been appointed to top posts. Doesn't he have clean people in his party? Many others, particularly highly tainted disloyal top administrative officers are being protected. In these circumstances, we the public have very serious doubts about yahapaalanaya.

It was certainly not a Mammoth rally but an Elephant rally!!
Sirisena should start investigations with himself first with his compliance in the first central bank robbery.
