(Lanka-e-News- 09.April.2016, 11.30PM) Following the building being released where the police STF was housed on Park road , Vavuniya , after 19 years , opportunities have been created to buy paddy and store it during this harvest , said , Vavuniya district secretary M.B. Pushpakumara.
Due to the war this paddy warehouse center was taken over by the defense ministry 19 years ago , and the Vavuniya police STF was using it as its main camp.
However , because there were lack of facilities during this maha season to buy paddy and stock them , the district secretary Vavuniya had discussions in this regard with the police STF officers . As a sequel to this discussion , the police STF handed over the building on the 31 st of March to be used as a warehouse for storing paddy.
Currently , in Weppam Kulama and Omantha , Vavuniya , paddy purchasing and storing are being carried on , and in the building that was released by the police STF , about 3000 metric tons of paddy can be stored.
The district secretary Vavuniya, M.B. Pushpakumara who did a survey on the paddy purchasing and storing during this maha season said , in this new warehouse center , during this harvest season , the farmers can store ther paddy without any issue . The Vavuniya farmers and himself are deeply beholden to the defense ministry for releasing this building which was in the custody of the police STF for 19 years, he added.
