(Lanka-e-News- 10.Feb.2016, 8.00PM) A pro government of good governance Counsel Jayantha Jayasuriya who shows deference to the laws has been appointed as the Attorney General to the delight of the law abiding people of the country. Last Monday as the three names forwarded by the president to the Constitutional council was unconstitutional , this was rectified , and the president forwarded only the name of Jayantha Jayasuriya to the Constitutional council today.
The Constitutional Council that met this afternoon unanimously approved and sent the name of Jayantha Jayasuriya as the new Attorney General. Neither John Seneviratne nor Wijedasa Rajapakse who spoke in favor of acting AG Suhada Gamlath the notorious Rajapakse stooge, at the constitutional council meeting on Monday did not object to the appointment of Jayantha Jayasuriya.
ASccordingly , Jayantha Jayasuriya is scheduled to take oaths as the new AG before the president tomorrow.
The appointment as AG of Suhada Gamlath who became most notorious during the Rajapakse era as a Rajapakse stooge who acted in violation of the laws to serve the despicable and deplorable aims and agendas , was opposed by Civil organizations and from within the AG’s department while Lanka e news too carried on a huge campaign to build up opinion against his appointment. But of course the pro Rajapakse groups backed Suhada Gamlath to the hilt though unsuccessfully.
Jayantha Jayasuriya is a holder of a post graduate degree and has a wealth of experience working abroad. In the legal circles he is reckoned as non partisan and is most popular.
