(Lanka-e-News- 05.May.2015, 8.00PM) With a view to refurbish the image of the Sri Lanka (SL) army which is facing war crime charges and also to help the disaster victims of the recent earthquake that rocked Nepal, the prime minister of SL have  dispatched the SL  forces to Nepal. It is noteworthy that the SL forces were the first of the foreign forces to set foot on Nepal to conduct rescue operations. The Sri Lankan forces  comprising the army ,Navy and the Air force have so far provided medical attention and services to over 1500 patients.

The task of providing medical services to the affected in the vicinity of Dhollagart , Nepal about 60 kilometers from Katmandu has been entrusted to SL relief workers. Major general Dias , in charge of the SL forces said , our forces are applying themselves to their tasks with commitment and dedication.

The SL army engineering division had been able to restore a number of  damaged  buildings and clear many  routes that were blocked by landslides . Consequently , about a hundred thousand  residents in the vicinity of Dhollagart can be reached  by relief workers , as the roads have now  been opened.

Following the collapse of a suspension bridge at Sipagart , several villages were isolated for five days. However our forces have been able to restore the bridge on the 30 th, which has enabled supplies of food and medical aid to the residents now.

Nepal has decided to have the  Wesak celebrations today ( May 4th) , and our forces are participating in a number of events to make of it a success.
