(Lanka-e-News -13.April.2016, 4.55PM) Minister Champika has bowed to the wishes of the people in an attempt to prove that his slate is clean and repudiate the accusations pointing at him.
That is , he had taken the right step by writing to the FCID and requesting to conduct an investigation into the allegations pertaining to his bosom pal , the ex chairman of the Electricity board Vidya Maithripala during the period Champika was the minister of power and energy .
Vidya Maithripala ‘s name was revealed recently by the media as among the names in the name list of ‘Panama exposure’ or Swiss bank secret account holders.
Amarapala is even now said to be functioning as an advisor to the ministry of capital city and western development of Champika Ranawake .The latter has informed that Amarapala has decided to resign from all his posts amidst these controversies.
In the letter addressed to the FCID by the private secretary to minister Champika Ranawake it is stated , Amarapala prior to being appointed as the advisor to the ministry of capital city and western development of Champika Ranawake , had been working at Sovereign capital Corporation during the period between 2003 and 2010.
It is in the year 2010, Amarapala was made the chairman of the Electricity board by minister Champika. The Sovereign capital Corporation is affiliated to the I.W.S. Holdings based in Singapore, and it belongs to Arthur Senanayake. The name of the latter is also there in the aforementioned name list of those who concealed illicit wealth .
In any event , though Champika has sent the letter to the FCID using the official letterhead , he had taken precaution to have it signed by his private secretary.
In the report published by Lanka e news on the 9th of April , we questioned as follows :
“From where did Amarapala come by such enormous wealth ?” and “On the face of it these are the inordinately large illicit commissions he had earned while he was the chairman of the electricity board. If that is so, could that have been done without the knowledge of Champika Ranawake ? Or , are those the illicit commission earnings of Champika Ranawake when he was the minister in charge ?”
In that report dated 9 th April , we also stated that minister Champika must furnish answers to this , and if he is not implicated he must initiate action to probe into his pal’s involvements as well as the concealed assets of all Sri Lankans .
Champika’s letter to the FCID in response to that report is indeed a most ethical step signaling that there is a new political culture on the horizon in Sri Lanka .
Let us wait and watch what action the FCID is going to take.
A media communique of Champika Ranawake and the letter under the official letterhead sent by Daya Perera his private secretary to the FCID are herein.

The FCID should also probe into the afffairs of the state-owned Bank of Ceylon branch in the Seychelle Islands. This location is long-suspected of habouring undeclared assets. The Bank of Ceylon branch serves just 3 main customers. Incidentally, I am curious to know if these 3 loyal, valued and huge profit-providing customers are 3 musketeer-brothers or an ailing father and his 2 sons who could make money vanish faster than Houdini could remove his handcuffs without a key or screwdriver.
