Island wide strike on 15 th against 9 ‘unsavoury’ budget proposals

(Lanka-e-News -06.Dec.2015, 8.30PM)  In protest against some of the budget proposals of Minister Ravi Karunanayake , trade unions of a number of sectors are to jointly stage an Island wide strike on 15 th December, the National trade union committee Front has decided. The president of the Front has issued a communiqué to this effect.

The Front charges that in the budget 2016 , the rights of the employees of the government , semi government and private sectors have been greatly trimmed down. Among them are :

The promised Rs. 10,000.00 not tagged on to the basic salary .
The pensions to government servants withdrawn from January 2016.
No  Agrahara insurance entitlement to pensioners
The period of service  necessary for  confirmation of permanency in the post, extended from 180 days to 365 days
The number of working hours per day raised from 8 hours to 9 hours
The promised motor cycle relief not granted.
The emission test levy increased from Rs.5000.00 to Rs. 15000.00
The government tourist bungalows – official rest houses to be given over to the private sector.
Diminution of  income  of the banks  .

A letter had been sent to the president and the prime minister to find solutions to a  number of such issues ,but  no response has been received from them so far. In the circumstances , the Health service , postal service, railways , private bus service, and many other services have decided to  stage a massive strike on 15 th December , the communiqué issued by Saman Rathnapriya states.
