Extremist opposition parties too agree to reinforce parliament proposed by P.M.
(Lanka-e-News- 18.Oct.2015, 8.45AM) At time when even the political opponents are supporting the efforts of the Prime minister (P.M.) to reinforce the parliament , there seems to have arisen an issue of inadequacy of space in parliament.
During last week a number of rounds of disscussions were held chaired by the prime minister in regard to appointment of monitoring committees comprising MPs which constitute a vital necessity for the reinforcement and strengthening of the parliament . It is significant to note that at these discussions, even the extreme pro Rajapakse anti government group which includes Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dinesh Gunawardena and Wimal Weerawansa participated , and there weren’t much opposition from even that group .In a welcome move ,Dinesh expressed his support to this effort , while Vasudeva cleared all his doubts that plagued him on this subject.
The P.M. elucidated and elaborated on how in other countries this system works , and provided all present with the brochures and materials pertaining to this proposal.
These parliamentary committees numbering 16 which will monitor all the ministries will each have an M.P. as its chairman .
When the offices for these monitoring committees are being allocated , issues of inadequacy of space in parliament can arise . Therefore , it was decided to use the four storey building of the agriculture ministry that is in close proximity to the parliament to meet the space inadequacy , and shift the agriculture ministry elsewhere.

Wimal, Vasudewa et al favour this idea of strengthening Parliament because thew know MR will never become President and it would be easier to attack MS if he is less powerful.
