(Lanka-e-News -29.Sep.2015, 6.30PM) The appointment of Geetha Kumarasinghe M.P. as member of parliament has been challenged in court . As she has dual citizenship (SL and Switzerland) , her position as UPFA Galle district M.P. is legally invalid , it is alleged.
A writ petition filed by five voters of Galle district against her was taken up for hearing today in the appeal court.
In the petition it is revealed that under the 19 th amendment to the constitution a dual citizen cannot function as an M.P. Moreover , Geetha has herself admitted that she is a dual citizen in an interview with an English newspaper last year.
Accordingly , all the respondents including Geetha were today (28) issued notice to appear in court on 19 th of October.
The respondents cited in the petition are : Geetha Samanmali Kumarasinghe , Immigration and Emigration controller , the general secretary of the UPFA and the parliamentary secretary , among others.
The petition was heard before judges , Vijith Malalgoda (appeal court president), and H.C.J. Madawala .

The 19th amendment in my view is flawed in respect of DN, It will not achive what was intended. It is in the interest of the SL state MP or some of them being DN.
