(Lanka-e-News -25.Sep.2015, 11.00PM) It was Mahinda Rajapakse who for the first time introduced the hybrid mechanism to detect war crimes , and not Geneva . That was providing technological assistance by appointing a foreign specialist to the Maxwell Paranagama Commission , minister Champika Ranawake declared.
The minister addressing a media briefing today , said , therefore there is nothing more left to summon army officers afresh and question them. All the officers of the army chiefs who gave orders during the war had been summoned , statements recorded and questioning concluded by the Paranagama commission . The report of this commission is slated to be released , he added.
Just because terrorist leaders like Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman are dead , those who assisted them cannot escape liability . All those who collected funds , supplied weapons and gave counsel to them cannot escape from their criminal liabilities , the minister emphasized.
