No cabinet appointments even a week after election of new government; Bishwal’s visit necessitates three urgent ministerial appointments

(Lanka-e-News- 24.Aug.2015, 6.30PM)  It is a week since the new government was appointed, yet until now because of the dilatory tactics of the SLFP led by the president, the new government had not been able to commence work. However to meet the exigent circumstances , three new ministers took oaths today.

These appointments were made in view of Central Asia assistant State secretary  Nisha  Biswal arriving in Sri Lanka (SL) tomorrow (25) . The three new urgently  appointed ministers are : D. M Swaminathan – minister of rehabilitation and re settlement; Wijedasa Rajapakse – minister of justice; and Mangala Samarweera as minister of foreign affairs.

These ministers had to take oaths  because of the visit of Bishwal,  minister of foreign affairs , minister of rehabilitation and minister of justice are essential  to hold discussions with Bishwal on the relevant subjects. This necessity was pointed out by Ranil Wickremesinghe to the president who gave his consent.

The SLFP led by president Maithripala seems to be more concerned about the grabbing of ministerial portfolios than rescuing the country. By creating disputes that if the P.M. post is given to the UNF , the finance minister post must be given to the SLFP ; if the health minister post is given to the UNF , the education ministry portfolio should be given to the SLFP , and so forth  they have  caused  undue  delays and created obstacles.

Much worse than all these is the request made by the Maithripala led SLFP to grant a ministerial portfolio to the notorious corrupt brigand of the Blue brigade  Dilan Perera which the UNF is roundly opposing . In the circumstances the swearing in of the cabinet has yet to be fixed for tomorrow.
