(Lanka-e-News -19.Aug.2015, 11.30PM) Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has created a record in the history of parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka by polling the highest number of preferential votes at the general elections concluded yesterday. The number of votes he secured is 5,00,566 !
Mahinda Rajapakse is second with a preferential vote count of 423529.
There are two other candidates who secured more than 300,000 preferential votes each. They are Wimal Weerawansa from Colombo and Prasanna Ranatunge from Gampaha.
Ranjan Ramanayake from Gampaha, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam from Kurunegala, and Harin Fernando from Badulla secured over two hundred thousand preferential votes each.
It is Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the JVP as a party leader however could not secure very many preferential votes .He could secure only 65000 votes approximately, which is less than what was polled by Hirunika , a political fledgling.
It is significant to note that out of the 81000 voters of the JVP from Colombo , 15000 of them not voting for Anura Kumara is an index that one fifth of the JVP voters repel him.

A biased/unfair headline. In fact 22% of the Colombo UNP voters did not vote for Ranil. So Anura Kumara has done better than Ranil on this score. Only 11% of the UPFA K'gala voters did not vote for MR.
