(Lanka-e-News- 27.July.2015, 3.30PM) It is with great pleasure we post this most salutary news report about a historic and unique agreement that is to be signed tomorrow (Tuesday the 28 th) , the first in Sri Lanka’s history and a unique agreement never signed before in world’s history of Democracy. It is being regarded as a most pleasant shock to all citizens of the country, and to be marvelled at by one and all.
The parties to this most welcome agreement are UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe the prime minister of the present cartetaker government cum prime minister designate of the next government, and most Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera , the leader of the organization for government of good governance.
Over 100 organizations including civil , professional and political parties that are not contesting but are exercising their valuable franchise come under this organization for good governance .
The signing of this unique historic agreement is scheduled to take place tomorrow (28) at 9.30 a.m. ceremonially at Colombo Foundation Institute.
Hitherto , there was never ever been an agreement to legally or morally bind a government elected to power on the votes of the people to any system of governance for and on behalf of the people after being installed in power . But now with this unique historic agreement the government that is elected stands bound legally and morally to the people even after it is elected to power. This is because no sooner the present caretaker P.M. Ranil Wickremesinghe becomes the P.M. of the next government than this historic agreement will be given effect to legally and most effectively as it will be turned into a most tenable legal agreement.
Hence, this is a novel agreement , the first ever signed between a government and the people in the country’s history.
The UNP government that is elected to power on the 17 th of August will be obliged under this historic agreement to actively and legally work alongside the people taking full responsibility on their behalf for the development of the country in their best interests inluding their fundamental rights ,while working with absolute commitment towards riddance of the currently raging corruption in its entirety - the bane of the country.
This agreement provides for and envisages the fulfilment of the pledges made to the people that could not be completed after the 8 th of January under the 100 days program because of the sabotages, and obstacles placed from within and without by insidious and sly pro Polonnaruwa schemers , and their forces .
This agreement therefore incorporates the following :
Introduction of a new electoral system by enactment.
Bill regarding Audit investigations and
the Bill which grants right to information , are among the bills to be passed which were contemplated earlier but could not be passed successfully under the previous 100 days program because of the aforementioned sabotage and obstructive activities.
Resolving national issues with true commitment
Supplying and meeting the needs of the environment.
Eliminating power and energy inadequacies
Fulfilling to the fullest the requirements of the people .
Lead the country on a road stamping out corruption and towards true and tangible development .
What had been mentioned above are only some of the many clauses in the agreement which also incorporates the methodologies and modalities pertaining to their implementation .
Accordingly , these organizations more than a hundred including civil , professional and minority political parties led by the organization for good governance will be appointing an advisory council geared to ensure the genuine progress of the country .This council shall be meeting every month with the government led by the P.M. to discuss the future progress of the country towards which end, a number of modalities and methodologies are included in the agreement.
Be that as it may , let us remind ourselves in the best interests of the country that Democracy is the outcome of the sweat , toils and efforts of ours and yours . It is not just something introduced by an alien or a product like a cake of sandalwood offered on a platter from the heavens by a divine being . So. let us bear this in mind uppermost , think wisely and act accordingly to safeguard this most precious gift cautiously and with utmost diligence.
