(Lanka-e-News- 27.June.2015, 11.55 PM) A drug company which was black listed few years ago but managed to escape because of lack of evidence is about to supply Cancer Hospital, a lung cancer vaccine which has only being used as an experimental drug in Cuba.
They use one of two of senior cancer Specialists, the newly appointed acting unsuspecting Director Cancer Hospital for this scheme which will affect poor cancer patients in Sri Lanka.
They first got this Lung cancer vaccine registered in Sri Lanka through their friendly Oncologists despite opposition by majority of clinicians due to lack of proper clinical data. They then influence same oncologists to make hundreds of requests through the health Ministry to purchase it as a special cancer drug. Then the Cancer Hospital Director is influenced by the same oncologist to call for tender to supply the drug. As they are the only company who brings in this experimental drug, they will quote very high price for the drug and still get the tender. Through the huge profits generated, the company look after the oncologists and all the others who help them to get the deal.
The real danger is that this vaccine is not proven to be effective except for a small study done by the company in Cuba which claims on or two months prolongation of survival. This study for the purpose of registration in Cuba has not been properly reviewed by independent peers. Poor cancer patients who would otherwise get time tested proven treatment will be denied of correct treatment due to callous and uncaring deeds by of corrupt oncologists for their personal gain.
The public should be informed and all the Lung cancer patients who have been prescribed this drug should be informed about them being given an experimental drug. The precious funds meant for purchase of essential and effective should not be wasted in this manner.
It is high time that a powerful commission is formed in investigate shady deals of these corrupt people at Health sector. The silent majority who are helplessly watching this corruption at NCIM will come out and give evidence if they have such in independent commission.

It is highly inappropriate to say that this drug would endanger lung cancer patients. This is newer innovation and a proven DRUG used in even USA. This drug was used by many oncologists in Srilanka and claimed excellent results, but there are only THREE oncologists against it purely based on personal reasons. The drug is actually not registered in Srilanka. Still there are many unregistered drugs used for cancer patients on the respective consu ltant’s request and the patients need. It will be properly registered after careful consideration very soon. But, the reason why this doctor is writing to your e news is to hide his corruptions and show a heroic image to public.
This is written by none other than DR, DEHAN GUNASEKERE who was caught TWICE by the Health Ministry Flying Squad while earning money at a private cancer centre in Colombo during working hours. He managed to escape som how using POLITICS UNDER THE REGIME THEN. He is a junior oncologist who is 54 years of age targeting an accelerated money earning program understanding the little time he has left. He sat for his A/Level three times and entered the Kelaniya PRIVATE MEDICAL COLLEGE, with just THREE credits . He passed out from Kelaniys Private Medical School after SEVEN years of stagnation. After this ‘BRILLIANT ACADEMIC CARRIER’ he managed to enter in to Oncology specializing program and came out as an Oncologist who is now a CANCER MUDALALI’ like his own father who is a DRY FISH MUDALALI’. He lives in his TAMIL wife’s house in Colombo 07, and seeks in to every opportunity to grab commissions and money from patients and drug companies. He sells Cancer Drugs at his Hospital Room and collects money through a hospital worker. So, its obvious why he is against his rival companies when he is unable to carry out his business.
I expect ‘ LankaEnews’ to publish this reply without deletions since it clearly explains the concern that this Doctor has. If not we will need to probe more in to this malicious mutilated news that you published single handed with bias and favouration to a CORRUPT DOCTOR, without evidence or without consulting Senior High officials in the Oncolgy field.
