(Lanka-e-News- 18.May.2015, 11.30PM) A public road is to be named after Field marshal Sarath Fonseka who led the country to victory in the war against fascist terrorists six years ago- a war that was the consequence of the failure of the rulers of the country since independence to end the ethnic discrimination . The inauguration of the road in his name will ceremonially take place tomorrow (19).
The road between Ananda Mawatha , Colombo 10 , and Ketawalamulla mawatha is to be named as Field marshal Sarath Fonseka mawatha. The inauguration will take place tomorrow (19) at 3.30 p.m under the patronage of Deshamanya Minister Karu Jayasuriya . The mayor of Colombo Muzammil, and Colombo Municipal council members have made all the arrangements in this connection .
According to Muzammil , it is a request of the president Maithripala Sirisena that is being granted most expeditiously. The Western province chief minister ,the water supply board , the urban development authority , the SL police and several others acted with commitment towards this project , the mayor further pointed out.
In any event naming a road while the individual is still living is something rare and special.
