President announces date of dissolution of Parliament

(Lanka-e-News-09.April.2015, 11.30PM) President Maithripala Sirisena today announced the date of dissolution of parliament. The president said , as promised to the people , the 19 th amendment seeking to transfer the executive presidency power to the parliament will be tabled in Parliament with a view to getting it passed on  the 20 th of April , and when that is successful , the parliament will be immediately dissolved, in view of elections.

The president made this revelation at a function today  at Poolathisi pura national education faculty ,Polonnaruwa . There are various issues and differences in parliament at present , but after the upcoming elections , all these will be resolved., he added .

Based on reports reaching Lanka e news, the proposed 19 th amendment will be debated in parliament on the 20 th of April from morning till night , and the voting will take place in the night itself. If the amendment is not passed , the parliament will be dissolved the same night- midnight, in which case the parliamentarians who had not completed the five year term by then would be forfeiting their pensions, for their five year term ends only on the 21 st. On the other hand if the amendment is passed on the 20 th , the parliament will be continued for the next several days in order to pass the right to information bill, and several other bills , before the parliament is dissolved. In such an event the parliamentarians who completed five years will get their pensions , he pointed out
