Yesterday marks a watershed in SL’s history : National government officially born – new SLFP ministers appointed

(Lanka-e-News- 23.March.2015 -4.30PM) Following an unprecedented turn of events , for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka (SL) the two main political parties , the UNP and SLFP formed a national government yesterday  with ministerial portfolios shared  between them. The SLFP secured 11 new ministers , 10 deputy ministers and  5 State ministers (total of 26) , and these ministers were sworn in before the president Maithripala Sirisena :

The new ministers of the Cabinet are :

A.H.M. Fowzie – minister of disaster management
S.B. Nawinna – minister of labor
Piyasena Gamage – minister of skills development and vocational training
Sarath Amunugama –minister of Higher education and research

New State ministers
Pavithradevi Wanniarachi –Environment
Jeewan Kumaratunge – Labor
Mahinda Samarasinghe –finance
C.B. Rathnayake –administration and democratic governance
Dilan Perera –Housing and samurdhi

Though the election promise originally of the new government was to confine the ministerial portfolios to 25 , the interim government was stymied in its efforts to get the promised constitutional amendment passed in parliament beneficial to the country. Consequently the necessity arose  to lure the opposition via swelling  the Cabinet with more ministers ,but  in the proposed new constitution how many should be included is stipulated

No matter what , the inevitable necessity  arising to increase the ministerial portfolios to pass the new constitution only goes to demonstrate beyond any trace of doubt that the modern politicians of SL are a breed  while parading as people’s representatives are only serving  their own  personal agendas , and selfish self centered ambitions which are  masquerading as national interests ,unconscientiously duping the gullible  voters.
