(Lanka-e-News - 28.Nov.2017, 5.45PM) The Commissioner of elections has decided to hold local government elections for 93 local government bodies which are not having litigation encumbrances , and are free from court directives. The district returning officers issued the notification calling for nominations for those 93 bodies yesterday (27) , the Elections Commission announced. As these local bodies are free from litigation tangles and are sans delimitation issues , the Elections Commission which met on the 25 th , decided that elections can be held for these local administration bodies without any hindrance.
Accordingly , the receiving of deposits of the candidates seeking elections to the 93 local bodies commenced today , and is to conclude on 13 th December . The nominations of candidates are to be received from 11 th December until 14 th of December 12.00 noon.
It is in relation to only 203 local bodies, cases are being heard in the appeal court and restraining orders had been issued during court proceedings. There are 133 local bodies which are not subject to interim injunctions , and the gazette notification pertaining to 40 of them carried minor printing errors. In order to rectify those errors , the provincial councils ministry has been asked to take action to issue a gazette notification . As regards the 93 local bodies for which nominations are being called are sans any issues.
Meanwhile the Attorney General had today filed a motion requesting to expedite the petition filed by some henchmen of Maithri in the appeal court . The latter accepting the request decided to advance the date to 30 th November from 04 th December.
With the notification calling for nominations , irrespective of the bonding of Maithri and Rajapakse , the Rajapakses have submitted the papers and made the cash deposits for 16 local bodies in three districts under the flower bud symbol of Podujana Peramuna.
Those are Panadura, Horana and Beruwela local bodiesof Kalutara district , Bandaragama and Agalawatte local bodies, Hikkaduwa and Ambalangoda local bodies of Galle district , Balapitiya , Akmeemana and and Neluwa local bodies , Jae la, Minuwangoda , Wattala- Mabole and Peliyagoda local bodies of Gampaha district as well as Wattala and Biyagama local bodies.
It can be clearly inferred from the foregoing , though Miathripala Sirisena like a Sillysena is demeaning himself trying to even abandon the government and most shamelessly crawl on all fours towards Rajapakses , the Machiavellian Rajapakses are doing everything to suit their self serving agendas , and cashing in on Sirisena’s desperation and the situation.
