(Lanka-e-News -10.Sep.2017, 6.45PM) Nenasiri Prangaratne Sirisena alias Lal Sirisena the brother of President Miathripala Sirisena who was involved In a fatal accident and fled the scene was later arrested and remanded.
The motor cycle rider and the pillion passenger were run over by the Land cruiser jeep driven by Lal Sirisena on the 9 th morning at Ethulampitiya , Polonnaruwa killing both individuals on the motor cycle. The deceased are A.J.M Jayaratne (48) and A.J.M. Buddhadasa ( 58) . They are brothers of the same family. The accident occurred when they were returning from the hospital after Buddhadasa was medically treated for his kidney ailment.
Lal Sirisena who drove the land cruiser fled away, but later surrendered to the police on 9 th evening. When a high rung police officer informed the president of the accident , the latter replied , ‘why are you asking me? Enforce the law regardless of rank and status’
Lal Sirisena the president ‘s brother who was arrested was remanded after he was produced before the Polonnaruwa magistrate .
Lal Sirisena was taken to Anuradhapura prison because there is no remand prison in Polonnaruwa. It is noteworthy the Anuradhapura prison hasn’t a hospital.
