Justice Minister Hakeem rejects dejected MaRa to join Maithri’s surefire bandwagon

(Lanka-e-News- 30.Dec.2014, 5.00PM) As was reported by Lanka e news on the 20 th , the SLMC led by justice Minister Rauf Hakeem relinquished his ministerial post to join the common opposition 28th to support its Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena. Addressing a media briefing this morning Hakeem revealed that he tendered his resignation letter from the ministerial portfolio to the President .

Hakeem said , he was not aware of what were the contents in the 18th amendment that was brought forward to change the 17th amendment of the constitution, but now this is a good opportunity to implement the 17 th amendment . No agreements exist with any party , ‘but we shall be working together with the UNP .We have focused our attention on so many issues concerning good governance .Towards this we shall take into consideration the performance of the people,’ he added .

No political party can carry out its tasks while running counter to the performance of the people. It is well for everyone to bear this in mind. The chiefs of my party too always warned me that we should fall in line with the performance of the people.

While saying SLMC has been decided to support Maithripala Sirisena , in the eastern provincial council (PC) , at the budget voting the votes will be cast in favor of the government , so that the PC will not collapse , Hakeem noted.

SLMC Deputy Minister Basheer Segu Dawood resigned his ministerial position to join the common opposition along with Muslim Congress. With the SLMC decision to join the opposition , 180 SLMC representatives of the people in the PCs and local bodies also crossed over to the opposition.
