5 officers of Jaffna police arrested over the deaths of 2 students of Jaffna University

(Lanka-e-News -22.Oct.2016, 11.00PM) Five officers of Jaffna police were arrested on the 21 st evening in connection with the murder by shooting of two students of the Jaffna university . The suspects were arrested by a special police team , as revealed by a chief of the police.

These cops were suspects over the death of the two students in the alleged motorcycle accident at dawn on the 21 st. at Kulappiddy  junction , Kokuvil.

The police earlier on said ,when  one of the students was returning to his hostel on the motor bike under the influence of liquor after attending a party at a house of a student in Chunnanakamhi , Jaffna , this accident took place.

However , subsequent investigations have revealed that the death was due to shooting , and the  special police criminal investigation division has launched further investigations .

Sashitharan , the president of the main student association of the Jaffna university who was at the hospital said , the post mortem examination on the two students has been concluded. A bullet was found lodged in the body of one student , and it has been confirmed by the medical officer that death was due to shooting , he added. 

The cause of death of the other student has not been established for sure  ,Sashitharan disclosed. 

The police chief said , there was a bullet in the body of one of the students who died. 
The Jaffna police on the other hand revealed the two students who were heavily inebriated died following a motor cycle accident .
However , the residents in the neighborhood of the incident who heard shooting sound , and have informed the Tamil National alliance (TNA) MPs. The latter had thereafter intimated this to the TNA leader  R. Sampanthan. 

As the TNA leader was attending a function with the president at Trincomalee , he had immediately communicated the incident to the president .

Based on reports , following prompt instructions issued by the president ,5 officers of the Jaffna police were arrested. 

The deceased are 24 years old Sudhandiraraja Sulakshan of Kandarodai, Chunnanakamhi , and Nadaraja Gajan residing at 156 th  mile post , Kilinochchi.
