(Lanka-e-News- 08.June.2016, 11.30PM) The report contained over 300 pages prepared in all three languages ,Sinhala, Tamil and English by the Committee of Experts appointed to gather public views and ideas pertaining to the proposed new constitution was last day handed over officially to the speaker of Parliament who spoke thus :
''I am optimistic that the thirst for a new constitution among the people can be quenched , and there are signs in that regard..
It has been possible to garner views of a cross section of the society with profundity for several months to prepare this report . This is indeed a victory for Democracy. I assure that every letter and every idea in that most valuable report shall be considered duly by the parliament .I trust the contents of this report will reflect the aspirations of the people who respect justice , discipline and righteous society .
It may sometimes be impossible to formulate the world’s best constitution , but doubtless this is a good beginning .and the Democratic world is watching us in earnest .''
The chairman of the committee Lal Wijenaike said , a number of most incisive ideas of the people , views of the Veddha community , the disabled and even the mutes have been gathered through various modes and incorporated in the report .
Even people’s ideas and recommendations on 22 various subjects have been summarized in this.
In instances when the committee was divided on the recommendations , the reasons for this division have also been detailed in the report .
