Pakistan sends Field Hospital, Relief goods for Sri Lankan flood victims

(Lanka-e-News- 22.May.2016, 9.30PM) The Government of Pakistan has sent a 30 bed fully equipped modern field hospital and relief materials for the victims of the recent floods in Sri Lanka. 

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had directed the relevant authorities to make immediate arrangements for provision of emergency relief to the flood victims in Sri Lanka.

In line with the directive of the Prime Minister material and equipment are being sent to Sri Lanka from the government and the people of Pakistan as emergency relief for flood victims.

The relief assistance includes a state of the art 30 bed field hospital which is equipped with operation theaters, X Ray systems and Labs, as well as variety of relief items including Medicine, Electricity Generators, Tarpaulins, Tents etc, in heavy quantities.

17 Pakistani doctors will also be arriving in Sri Lanka for providing health care assistance to the Sri Lankans affected by the floods. 

2 special cargo air crafts will be reaching Colombo shortly, bringing the relief items for the flood victims. According to documents, these relief goods are being dispatched by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the transportation arrangements of the Ministry of Defence/Pakistan Air Force.

Pakistan being a close regional ally has offered condolences to the Government and people of Sri Lanka over the loss of precious lives and the displacement of more than 400,000 people due to the devastating floods and the record rainfall in Sri Lanka. 

Pakistan expressed solidarity with all those who have suffered due to these rains. The Prime Minister has directed that all necessary assistance may be provided to the Government and people of Sri Lanka, as required for the rescue and relief operations. The people of Pakistan stand with the brotherly people of Sri Lanka at this time of grief.

Both friendly countries have been assisting each others in challenging times especially in view of the disaster situations.   In recent years the government and the people of Pakistan extended their support for the tsunami affected population and landslide victims of Koslanda in Sri Lanka. Similarly, the Sri Lankan government and public supported victims of the deadly earthquake of October 2005 which claimed over 73,000 lives in northern Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir as well as during dengue epidemic and floods in Pakistan.
