(Lanka-e-News- 21.May.2016, 9.20PM) India the neighbor and friend of Sri Lanka (SL) has taken measures to send two ship loads and a plane load of essential commodities to Sri Lanka as aid for the Sri Lankans who are currently facing dire hardships following the devastating floods. This move is in compliance with a request made to India by SL.
Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi after learning of the sudden disaster that struck SL , had expressed his sorrow over the dead and conveyed his sympathies to the families whose dear ones died owing to this tragedy.
On the instructions of Modi, already a ship carrying aid has lefft for Sri Lanka from Cocchin , the Hindu’ newspaper reported. The second vessel with goods is to leave for Colombo shortly, the same newspaper stated.
These two vessels I.N.S. Sutledge and I,N.S.Sunayna belonging to the Indian Navy are due to arrive in SL. Sutledge is already headed for SL.
The plane C 17 Globemaster belonging to the Indian Air Force which carries heavy equipments is scheduled to leave for SL at 3.00 p.m. today Indian time from New Delhi bridge Air Force camp. This plane is carrying medicines ,water purifying equipments and tents. This plane after landing in Chennai to load the tents, will leave for SL .
