‘SL’s economic policies will be further liberalised’ says SL P.M. addressing over 100 prospective Chinese investors

(Lanka-e-News- 09.April.2016, 11.30PM)  It is Sri Lanka ‘s will to make the country the economic and trade center once again of  the Indian ocean , and towards this the necessary environment shall  be created . With this in view measures shall be taken to liberate the economic policies . Detailed information in this regard shall be put out in June this year , said SL Prime Minister ( P.M.)  Ranil Wickremesinghe when addressing a Chinese trade conference at the China World hotel , Beijing , China.

This conference organized by the China Council for the International promotion of trade was attended by over 100 representatives of high profile businessmen and entrepreneurs , as well as a number of Sri Lankan businessmen who are engaged in trade with China .

The P.M. of SL went on to state , it is the  aim and objective to steer the country forward while making it a center for trade, service providing headquarter and a platform of augmentation .

Following the appointment of Maithripala Sirisena as the president of the country in January 2015 , SL has embarked on a new journey , and from that point of time the two main political parties have joined  to form a united government on behalf of the people , the P.M. of SL pointed out.

For the first time in SL’s history , the representatives of both parties have been included in the State delegation  to visit China , which is a good illustration of the new path followed by SL , the P.M. observed.

In the past , more attention was paid to the projects launched jointly between governments , but in the future , the focus should be on projects between state and private entrepreneurs jointly, and on private enrepreneurs , and SL has prepared the necessary environment towards this, Wickremesinghe explained at length .

Jiang Zengwei , the chairman of the Chinese international trade promotion , Yi Shiangliyang the Chinese ambassador  to SL, Ms. Luo Yan the chairperson and Directress General of CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd. .  Luo Yan also addressed the conference . The participants were allocated time to pose their questions.

Minister of foreign affairs Mangala Samaraweera, minister of special projects Dr. Sarath Amunugama , Transport and civil aviation minister Nimal Siripala De Silva , Town planning and water supply minister Rauff Hakeem , Housing and construction minister Sajith Premadasa , Development strategy and international trade minister Malik Samaraweera clarified the points.

During the past one year the present government visited various countries of the world , and held similar conferences to mobilize investment . Countless investors participated in these conferences. Yet , not one investor has come forward to invest in SL to commence a project. It is the duty of those responsible to  probe why it is so.

Who will invest serious money when the country is still in the dark ages with so many restrictions. First must have a friendlier immigration policy where foreigners could settle and buy land. Due to the security situation that may disturb the unity of the country, such settlements and investments should only be limited people of visa free states or countries. This will exclude troublesome countries from south Asia, just as Western countries are selective about the people they let in.President and PM should have the discretion that should be honestly administered. We must target the people in the western countries that are more honest and courteous. Their life styles and ethics are advanced enough for people in the third world want to settle there in thousands. With their help we could create our own first world but we must be cautious of corporations and other agencies or organizations that will destabilize the country and steal the recourses. Right to buy land either for ones home or for wealth creating ventures must be encouraged without giving short tern absurd tenure of the lands they set up their ventures as they have no security and seeking long term growth for their investments.
