Dear Prime minister
We were able to liberate this country from the clutches of a vicious dictator on January, 8th, 2015 and stablish a government of based on principles of good governance, eliminating fear and corruption which were the main pillars of the Rajapaksha regime.
We have restored democracy in the country, but the government health sector is still under the vicious claws of Anurudda Padeniya. Democracy is yet to dawn upon government doctors who are still being supressed by this dictator. Anurudda padenya and his band of goons at the GMOA thrive upon the same priniples of the Rajapaksha regime. Fear and Corruption. Any doctor who raises his voice against them will be harrassed mercillesly, creating a fear psychosis which has silenced most of the doctors. Corruption is rampant with supporters of Padeniya given preference in all transfers. Irregularities have become the standard but nobody dares to say a word due to fear of repercussions. Officials at the health ministry are at the mercy of Padeniya.
Even though the dictator at the top is gone, nothing has changed for the governmrent doctors. Fear and corruption is continueing unabated with Padeniya and his goons controlling the health ministry, specially the appointments and transfers of doctors. I don’t know whether you are aware that it’s the GMOA that still decide which hospitals need doctors as well as the number of doctors needed and the speciality required . Instead of appointing doctors according to the needs of the country, the vacancy lists prepared by the GMOA have been carefully doctored to help their supportes.
Padeniya has recently commencened an agitation campaign against the government where he has resorted to tactics which are traditionally employed by labourers such as conducting demonstrations in bus stands and distributing leaflets in Fort railway station. These actions which tarnish our professional dignity and stature in the society are condemned by majority of doctors but they are scared to open their mouths due to fear.
Soon after the downfall of the dictator, Padeniya went into a state of hibernation but being a very tacfull person, he was able to recover and regain controll. Now he has set his sights on bringing down this government and he will do this relentlessly.
He is mobilising the oppposion to ECTA and to the Malabe private medical University. He conducted demonstrations against the government even before the joint opposition. His goons are criticising and riduculing you at every opportunity, even more ferociously than Wimal Weerawansa. In essence, he has become the biggest critic of this government while neglecting the welfare of average doctors.
Historically, he has demonstrated his capabilities as it was Anurudda Padeniya who brought down the UNP government in 2004 by conducting a continuous strike, which even went in to the extent of withdrawing emergency services. He started the stirr which gained moentum to become a storm which wiped out the UNP government and left the Party in opposion for 11 years.
Dear prime minister, we appeal to you to liberate us from this evil person who is working on a political agenda, completely ignoring the welfare of doctors and ruinng the social standing of doctors. We have failth in you as you are only person who had the courage to take on the GMOA head on.
