Two more Customs authorities remanded over 120 million bribery case – the largest sum ever in a bribery

(Lanka-e-News- 25.Feb.2016,11.30PM)  Two more Customs authorities were arrested by the officers of the commission inquiring into allegations of bribery and corruption . They are : Vasantha Wimalaweera and Upali Senarath Wickremesinghe.

These two suspects are also implicated  in the bribery case   involving a sum of Rs.125 million  which led to the arrest of a Customs authority , deputy Customs authority and additional Customs authority on 15 th October  2015.

When the bribery commission took into custody the three officers earlier on , it revealed two more officers have to be arrested, but they could not succeed .

The three officers were earlier arrested when they were collecting a sum of Rs.125 million out of a sum of   Rs. 150 million demanded by them to halt the Customs investigation that was under way into the import of bus  spare parts without payment of  duty via the SL transport board on an agreement signed with an Indian private Co.,  as well as to take necessary action that would allow the importers to avoid the duty payments.

The three officers were remanded earlier following their arrest , and today , these two wanted officers were arrested based on charges of demanding bribe , and  aiding and abetting in the crime. After these two officers were produced before the magistrate , they were ordered to be remanded.
 
 This  was the case in which the largest sum of money as bribe was involved ,in SL  . It is also noteworthy , Customs is one of the most corrupt Institutions in SL.

You are very wrong. Rs 150million, smallest bribe ever?What are you thinking?150mil looks like pocket money to what Rawula and Ranamandi may have collected together, especially in hard currency.Please make a correction on your website.
